fearfully and wonderfully certain

If I say, "surely the darkness will hide me, and the light become night around me..."

this verse, in it's fragmented form, is very powerful for me.  it signifies the moment that we as Christ followers know another part of who we are, because it demonstrates our deep awareness of who we are against --  the evil one.

surely the darkness will hide me.

surely, it will.

the evil one prowls around us each and every day.  he is with us as we live, love, struggle and strive.  he is with us as we pray, and quarrel and doubt.  he is ready to pounce on any opportunity we give him, and it is not a matter of "if" but "when."  the darkness is there, and it will surround us at times.

that is a strong conviction to hold, amen?  i believe it is so strong because it is not a feeling you have when you are wavering in faith.  to know your enemy is to first know which side you are on, and for us that is on the side of the Son of Man.  the choice we make when we choose His blood is the final decision for our eternity.  from then on, we simply swat away the devil as if he were a pesky fly.

surely he will surround us and hide us, and make the light of God seem dim, but he cannot ever separate us from our Lord.  bet on that girls.
